The Soup Bone

So who is ready for some Halloween books?

Tony Johnston
illustrated by Margot Tomes 1992

This story is actually pretty creepy if you think about it.  An old woman goes searching for a bone to put in her soup and digs up a skeleton instead.  Margot Tomes' pictures in their muted colors of brown and grey and red add a nice haunted colonial feel.

After scaring each other, the skeleton and the old woman become friends and go out together for some spooky fun.

Look at this awesome fellow on the last page!
